Dry Fasting and its powerful benefits

Today I found this interesting article about Dry Fasting. I'm sure there are a lot of sceptical people out there when comes to Dry Fast. Instead there's a lot of science behind the benefits of Dry Fasting and Fasting in general. Everyone should incorporate a type of Fast in their life - I strongly believe that our bodies were not created to be repeatedly fed during the day.

A TRUE LIFE OR DEATH SCENARIO
On extended dry fasts the first few days are the roughest as the body is still optimistically holding out for food or water but once it figures out that water and food are not coming and that death is imminent if it doesn’t adapt and fast to given circumstance it switches gears into survival mode— this highly adapted state IS the magical key of dry fasting. Survival of the fittest. All weakness is eradicated. The option of supporting the diseased and parasitic is no longer viable. All non essentials are eliminated and recycled to sustain the essentials. This IS cellular renewal at the deepest level— unattainable by any other means.

RESTRICTION OF FEEDING TIME — WHY?
**It’s not what you eat so much as WHEN you eat**
“Feeding schedule has been shown to have a significant impact on health and survival. In studies, time-restricted feeding had profound effects on neural, peripheral, and cardiovascular physiology and improved sleep, body weight maintenance, and delayed signs of cardiac aging, under UNCHANGED caloric intake and activity.”

Failing to begin a Fast - I'm trying again

The beginning of a fast is always the hardest one, and personally I usually fail the first couple of attempts before reaching Ketosis. Once I am in a good Ketogenic state, nothing can tempt me really, but this happens after approximately 7/8 days into a Fast.
I know I said I would start my new Fast on November 1st, but after 18hrs of Dry Fasting I gave up and had something to drink, in the evening I had a big supper, but overall only one big meal for the day. It’s so easy for my mind to convince me that one more day won’t make any difference and indulge in food and sugar; I am very weak.
Today I feel more motivated though. Since yesterday I started to check my weight again; I have to admit I cried when I saw the number on the scale, never been so fat and the amount of time I would need to lose all this weight is beyond my estimations.
On the Internet I found various blogs talking about personal Fasting experiences; the number of days of the length of a Fast it usually different for everyone, it can go from few hours up to 100 days. I was reading yesterday about someone completing 92 days fast, impressive, and definitely not common to find online these numbers. It requires lots of patience I can imagine, and fat storage enough to support the body for 3 months. But one thing I learnt from this story, after 3 weeks or so into the fast I should start to take Sodium, Potassium and other supplements for my electrolytes or I will feel too weak to continue over 30 days. This time around I’m aiming for 40/50 days, let’s see how it goes, I will listen to my body….but the number 92 is always in my mind!
I can’t wait for these first few days to go by quickly, because I know that I will feel better once I’m over this period, not that I feel hungry or thirsty but soon I will feel sleepy, I’ll have a headache, I’ll be grumpy, stomach growling, sugar cravings (well those ones never go away!), and my focus on things will be definitely impacted negatively. And I’m only 12hrs into the Dry Fast!
But really, I cannot continue like this, I hate myself everyday a bit more, and not that I care on how I look, I just don’t feel good, I don’t even want people to see me; if I could I will stay home in my bed for 2 weeks….but I have to come to work and deal with everyone here and with my cravings. I hope I’ll be fine this time around; a long journey is in front of me, I pray the Lord to give all the strengths I need to not give up this time.

Why I'm not losing weight on a Water Fast?

In my experience I narrowed down few reasons why I hit a plateau while Water Fasting:
  1. Lack of exercise – so to clarify I mean lack of general activities. Resting all day in bed will not help your body to consume calories, hence, since you’re in a Ketogenic state the body will not feel the need to burn any unnecessary fat. After all human body is a perfect machine. I would suggest light walks, doing errands or chores in the house, but most probably the best way is just walk for 2/3 hours a day.
  2. Lack of sleep – I found that few sleepless days and being very tired can cause a plateau, I guess even when not fasting. But it’s something to consider if looking for the cause of not losing weight.
  3. If you’re a woman and - TOM is around the corner, chances are you will hit a plateau. I know it sucks but water retention is a common thing before the period starts.
  4. Plateaus are a normal thing either if you’re fasting or dieting; I know it can be very frustrating not seeing any change on the scale when fasting believe me - but, if I’m in Ketosis I’m sure that it’s just water retention and maybe if I’m not losing pounds I’m losing inches somewhere. Be patient, usually plateau don’t last more than a couple of days, and then you’ll be back again on losing weight.
NOTE
  • I never seen any stall in my weight loss while Dry Fasting, at least in my personal experience, so I believe this thing is very rare to happen.
  • Also that might be many other causes why a person hits a plateau; I just listed some of the most common ones for me.

Electrolytes and Fasting - How much do we need?

Electrolytes are minerals in human body that have an electric charge. Sodium, Calcium, Magnesium and Potassium are all electrolytes.
Levels of electrolytes in the body can become too low or too high. That can happen when the amount of water in the body changes, causing dehydration or over hydration.
  • Potassium recommendation is around 4700 mg per day.
  • Magnesium intake for males should be between 330-350 mg per day, and females should intake about 255-265 mg per day.
  • Calcium is essential; the suggested intake is 800 mg per day for both males and females.
  • For both males and females it is recommended to keep Sodium intake below 2,000 mg.
Fortunately, strict water-fasting is associated with very few and rare complications and the fast is well tolerated in most cases, but I read somewhere that after 3+ weeks there have been reported cases of low electrolytes levels, but often can depends on the before-Fasting diet rather than the Fast itself. In this matter seems that Dry Fasting is actually safer than Water Fasting when comes on preserving healthy electrolytes levels. These are all my thoughts but be sure to do some researches if you suspect a imbalance on your electrolytes.

Dry fasting can cause too severe detoxing

I found this interesting article about Dry Fasting and I wanted to share with you:

In the distant past, when dry fasting was practiced more commonly, and usually performed as a sacrifice or a show of faith, it was done by a healthy individual -- healthy to a degree difficult for us to attain who live in technology-laden societies.
Modern day toxins find their way into our systems, no matter how carefully we try to prevent it. A dry fast may cause too quick a release of toxins that then have less fluid than usual with which to be carried away. The release of hard metals into the system would be the most damaging. Detoxing into a dehydrated system isn't wise. And, even if you're fasting not to detox, but for spiritual reasons, there is no way to avoid the natural detoxing that will occur.
Having said all that, if you really want to do a dry fast, if you feel guided and compelled, work your way up to it. Start with easier and gentler cleansing fasts, like juice or fruit, and follow a cleansing diet for a few months. Following a raw food diet is especially helpful.

You really must detoxify your body
and gain experience of the fasting process
before attempting such an extreme fast as dry fasting.

Fasting is never to be an abuse on your body. Follow your inner guidance, and maintain your intention to honor and respect your physical body, as dry fasting isn't about increasing physical health, per se; and one of your spiritual responsibilities is to maintain the health of your physical body--your soul's temple.

Master Fasting System - Days of my life!

A couple of days ago I started a new protocol that I was researching since a while. It is called Master Fast System, which is not really a Fast but a combination of drinking juice and dry fasting basically.
The protocol requires drinking from 1 to 4 liters of Concord Grape Juice with fresh squeezed lemon, as well as a special Kidney Tea with special tinctures added to it and once a day a sort of a Pudding based on grape juice and 3 powdered ingredients - magic for detoxification: Psyllium Husk, Bentonite Clay and Activated Charcoal. Those 3 powders are amazing to detox your gut and they’re rich on fiber as well.
So far I’m on day 1/2 not sure exactly, since I’ve not been doing it religiously quite yet, I hope today I won’t indulge in anything outside the protocol and I’ll be able to find the Plasma Balance that everyone is talking about!
The protocol is not hard to follow overall, you can drink a lot of grape juice and 2 teas per day, plus the “mud pudding” – as my man calls it – is really delicious and I don’t feel deprived as a normal Water Fast. On another note I really don’t want to know what’s the state of my Ketosis, with all this sugar that I’m taking every day; but the idea is to do a sort of intermitting fasting too – since the protocol requires a daily Dry Fast of 12-18 hours at least and a 24 hours weekly Dry Fast – I don’t think I’ll be interested on doing a monthly 48 hours Dry Fast as right now.Today I had what they call: mucoid plaque releases. A black long release that is supposed to coming out from the wall of my intestine and colon apparently, but I believe is partially created by the Mud Pudding, with some residue of whatever I have in my gut right now – I do trust 100% the power of the Mud Pudding! It is a magical detoxifier!I’m not losing weight with the same speed as a Water Fast and this is normal I guess, but this protocol actually banned Water altogether! I’m not supposed to drink Water at all, and actually I definitely decreased the amount of water I take daily by 90% I think. I drink water just with my 2 Kidney Teas and to take a pill in the morning, that’s pretty much all – scaring I know!
