66 hrs into the Dry Fast - 69.85 Kg (153.6lb)
I restarted my Dry Fast after a previous failure. It was so hard beginning a new Fast, you can't imagine how many times I started my day telling myself: "today no excuses, I'll start the Fast!", to then finding myself eating big breakfast, snacks, lunch and dinner! Oh well, fortunately I was able to find enough strengths to go through the first couple of days - those are the hardest ones. I feel good so far, I did not have headaches or withdrawal / detoxing symptoms; I feel well, I'm not thirsty, not hungry and my overall energy is still pretty good. I believe I was well hydrated to be ready to start this new Dry Fast. I'm confident this can be a prolonged Dry Fast, aiming for 8/9 days if my body will let me do it.
For the first couple of days I had regular BMs, I'm urinating as usual and I think the cold weather helps with that too. I'm thinking on doing an enema, if not today I will do it tomorrow - I feel something leftover in my GI tract that I want to get rid off. I didn't check my Ketosis yet, I assume I should be already in Ketosis since all my extremities are really cold. My sleep is not majorly affected yet, I guess in a couple of days I might see changing this sleep pattern. But every Fast is different from another, this time around I feel extremely normal, my body is reacting very well from the abstinence from food and water. I know it is just 66 hrs but I can tell that I'm full of energy ...and saliva!
69 hrs into the Dry Fast - update
I went for my usual walk today for lunch, it was like I did not fast at all. My energy is normal, I'm not thirsty, not hungry; sometimes my stomach is growling - but it goes away in few seconds and it doesn't happen that often. I'm confident I can take on this Dry Fast longer than my previous one, hopefully I can reach my 200hrs goal this time around. I'm urinating less now, but I still went I think 3/4 times since this morning. I'm just bored at work, I don't know what to do and when I don't eat I have so much spare time. I wish I could go on vacation for 2 weeks. Instead I'm stuck at my desk doing absolutely nothing. My mind it not busy with anything so - of course -all my thoughts go to my Dry Fast. Yesterday I was pretty grumpy, I have to admit it. Sometimes happens in the first couple of days, the food-abstinence makes me grumpy and irritable at times. I can tell that my patience is very low, that there's one part of my brain or body that it's screaming at me like: "why are you doing this to me?! Give me food!! I'm starving here!!" - but I'm stronger than that, so I just don't listen. It's seem a torture for whom is reading, but it's all worth it. The after feeling and state of mind is priceless.

Combined Dry & Water Fast - Days 15, 16 and 17
It has been a long weekend for me and my Water Fast, I went to US with my parents on a road trip, it was not very tiring but at the end of the trip I felt a bit weak and fell asleep very fast once back home. So far my fast is going well, I don’t see much changes on the scale but energy is good, mood is ok, and anxiety is gone, well at least most of the part of my days – I might have some episodes in the early mornings.
During this short trip I’ve been watching my parents eating delicious things and I must to say I did not feel the desire of cheating or breaking my fast, I didn’t feel deprived or anything, which means my Ketosis is working wonder! Unfortunately, I ran out of Ketostix so I can’t check what the ketone's levels are but I would assume I’m in a ketogenic state right now.
By Sunday evening I had very dry skin but maybe was due to the fact that, during the trip, I didn’t have much chance to drink water, we were always running around, so it was hard for me drinking and stopping to go to the bathroom, so I ended up drinking just around 1L of water or so. But after I resumed my water intake, my skin went back to normal.
Last night I was watching a YouTube video of a guy doing an extended Fast and his tongue was incredibly white! I never seen something like that, my tongue is just a little bit white compared his. I guess everyone is different but that was shocking for me.
I’m thinking of starting a new Dry Fast tomorrow; the weight loss rate while dry fasting is way higher than Water Fast, and since my weight is basically not moving at all (I’m still 61.7Kg), I want to try to give a boost to this fast, plus I’m getting tired on drinking water and I’m sure once I stay few days without water I will appreciate drinking again much more.

Why I have a white-coated tongue while Fasting?
So
curious on why my tongue is white when I’m fasting I did some researches and try
to find a scientific reason for it; I was never sold on the detoxing through
your tongue theory. I found different medical answers basically reporting
similar responses, this is a simple one found at this link:
"Your tongue is covered with little finger-like projections called papillae. These are what give it a rough velvety surface. They are not the same thing as taste buds!
The papillae themselves are coated with cells; technically stratified squamous epithelial cells, but don't get put off by this detail.
As we eat normally, those cells are sloughed off the tongue (and the other tissues of the mouth) by abrasion with food as it goes past. A mouthful of dry tortilla chips is quite abrasive. So they are continually being formed to replace the ones which are lost.
After a day or so without eating, those cells are still being formed; your tongue doesn't know you are fasting. As a result, a thicker layer than normal builds up, giving a whitish appearance.
After a few normal mouthfuls, the surface cells have been abraded away normally and your tongue looks pink again."
So basically my tongue is white just because, since I’m fasting, all those cells that cover my papillae are keeping on being produces and never scraped off. Now that makes perfect sense to me. When Dry Fasting the white-coated tongue appears way faster than a Water Fast, I guess because somehow the water, the lemon scrape off some of the cells being produced, so the whitening process is kind of slower.

Water Fast Day #3.5 - updates
It's Thursday
today and pretty much during lunch time starts officially the fourth day of my Water Fast. So far I'm ok, just ok; I cannot say that I don't have cravings or not dreaming about food but
I know that the first 2/3 days are
usually the hardest one. After these days pass, then it's smooth sailing…or something like that.
I had a bad headache
during the first 24 hours of fasting, maybe for the sugar withdrawal
or just for the detoxing process,
although I'm not really sure I was already "detoxing" during the
first 24 hours of fasting. It was not a huge pain or
anything like that, I still recall my first Water Fast – I had terrible
headaches for 2 days! It was mostly
for the coffee withdrawal though…and sugar too I guess, although I was not eating
refined sugar anymore, only Stevia.
I'm having often hot water with lemon and sometimes I go to Starbucks to get a Passion Tango hot tea,
it's 0 Calories and it's nice to
have something warm looking at the
snow outside. I usually try to drink distilled
water, especially if I'm home; but if I'm in the office I drink either the filtered water that we have in the
kitchen or the smart water brand that's vapour
distilled, as I found out it's made by Coca Cola, but to me it taste delicious when at the right room
temperature.
This morning I had only small traces of Ketosis and my weight is
nicely going down, I am 58.7Kg which
compared yesterday weight at 59.3Kg
is a 600gr loss (1.32 pounds) – of course first days are easier on the scale since I'm releasing
a lot of weight that comes from my GI
tract; but once I'm a good Ketosis
I'll be sure I'm also burning fats.
I'm planning to continue the Water Fast till all day tomorrow (Friday) and on Saturday
I will break the fats with Bone Broth
for the whole day. I'm not really happy to break my Fast but Sunday evening I have a dinner with my
boyfriend and I know he cares a lot about this dinner so I don't want to be the
bad one and ruin the plans….we didn't
see each other for Valentine's Day so
it's like a belated celebration. The reason why I'm not happy to take this break from my Fast is
because being in Ketosis makes things
easier to carry over, and the dinner
will throw me out immediately of
course….getting back in that phase will require another few days of strong willpower on not indulging in food and sweets. Oh well I
hope I will find the strengths to
start again my Water Fast…

A New Water Fast - Cleansing and Detoxing
I just want to start on saying: thank goodness the holidays are over! I gained enough
pounds to feel like a balloon on my mid-section.
Today is my Day #3
in my newly started Water Fast, so
far so good, this morning I registered high traces of ketosis with 80mg/dL. I'm
planning to keep going for at least 7
days, hopefully a bit more than that. My weight this morning was 57.9Kg, which is way higher than a month
ago when I was between 53 and 54Kg. I'm also trying to go to the gym as much as
I can, and I believe that slowly is somehow working. This coming Friday I have
my first Colonics, I'm actually
excited on doing it, I think it will be very beneficial for my cleansing and
detoxing process. During a Water Fast
is essential doing a colon cleanse,
either Colonics or enemas, especially important during
fasting since the BMs are really not easy to have and it could be very
painful if nothing is used to help the bowel movements. So keep in mind
that if you're starting a Water Fast
you need to buy few packages of
enemas – or whatever product you prefer for this type of procedure.
So my Raw Whole Food Plant
Based Diet is going well so far, I had some cooked food during these
holidays, but always vegan, no animal products, just roasted nuts or seeds, a
veggie burger, deep fried or roasted tofu and some steamed vegetables. But
overall I eat all raw if I'm cooking
at home, those episodes were mostly when I didn't have much choice while going out with friends.
I have to say that I ate a lot of bananas recently and for the amount of fruits or in general raw
food I was having, my weight did not go crazy as it used to go, I believe
is due to the raw food and my exercises that help me to keep my weight
under control. After my Colonics,
when I break my Water Fast I want to
be more disciplined with my food
intake. I'm planning to have a mono-fruit breakfast in the morning,
like papaya, mango or watermelon,
some fruits to snack during the day and for lunch a spinach salad with tons of
fruits as I used to have, which I really love;
only for the evening I will have a salad with some sort of fats. Fats are the culprit of my weight gain,
I get addicted very easily so I promised myself not to buy anymore nuts,
only seeds and avocados to provide the 10% of fats that I need, but I'll take
it slowly after the end of this Water Fast.
This evening I
have a ping pong game with my new boyfriend, not sure if I can say
boyfriend yet since it's not even 2 months that we're dating, but for the
matter of this post I'll use this label for him. I really hope I won't fall in food temptations, he loves food and he
cannot really understand being on a water only diet and not even drinking anything but water! Being around friends eating is
really hard while fasting; I would suggest avoiding those types of situations, at
least until few days into a fast, like after 7/8 days. At that stage you can feel strong enough to avoid
any food temptations.
I often think
about food, I'm not into the full
fast yet I guess, the idea of quitting
and eating something comes often into my mind, but I'm trying to be strong, I know this is normal, we're humans and food is one of the pleasure
of the life, well at least it is for me. I would also add that for me is an
expression of family love, the way I
was raised so it becomes very tough denying
myself of this comfort. But I know I will be super happy in few days and even more after successfully completed
this Water Fast.
Tomorrow I'll try to go to the gym for a noon class, 45
minutes of my favourite Body Attack class, it's tough usually when I'm eating, let's see tomorrow if I can complete
the whole 45 minutes, I won't push
myself too much if I feel weak during the class, I've been
doing things very slowly in the past 2 days so I can't tell really if
part of my energy will be back tomorrow since the Ketosis is high now.
This time around for my Fast
I'm having hot water with some lemon
juice, so far it's not destroying
my lips, which I'm really happy for it. For my personal taste I guess –
I have to say that nothing is better
than real lemon squeezed into a hot
cup of water, all those 100% organic pure
lemon juices are a scam, stick on real
fruits and you will never regret it!

48hrs into my 3rd Water Fast - Importance of Colon Cleansing
I'm doing another Water
Fast in these days, I was thinking to stick
to my plans on doing a 10-Day Water Fast and see how it goes. My cravings
were going nuts lately and I wanted
to take a break from all the banana ice cream, dates and nuts I was having. I
don't know any better way than doing a Water
Fast.
One thing I discovered
from my many researches was the reason why
I was having back pain during my
previous fasts; it was my colon and
the difficulties I had with my BMs. This time around I bought enemas
at the drug store. Apparently is recommended to do at least one enema per day while fasting. Cleansing the colon is an
important part of the detoxing process,
we don't want any bad stuff kept in the colon, we want to get rid of it as soon
as we can, so it won't keep on negatively
affect the results of the fast, contaminating
the body.
So far I just completed 48
hours of my fast, I'm drinking mostly distilled
water and – although I had natural BMs in the past couple of days – I did
do an enema this morning. It was painless, quick and I felt much better
after. I will definitely do it again
tomorrow morning, and most likely once a
day till the end of my fast. I even made an appointment with a local clinic
for a colonics, they gave me an
appointment in a month from now but I got a great groupon offer for half price so overall I'm not complaining.
Talking about bowel
movements might not be a pleasant thing to do but it is an important part
of the detoxing process during a Water Fast. Since I'm not having any food is normal that the digestive
system gets lazy in these days, but I
still have bad stuff/toxins in my
colon that I want to get rid of, so we should always consider doing an enema,
it's extremely easy to do and really takes just few minutes.
I sincerely hope I can complete my 10-Day Water Fast as planned, the
reason why I'm having doubts is not
due to my willpower but more for my
social events coming up. Christmas is 2 weeks away basically and there's so much going on lately, plus dating doesn't help when Water Fasting. I have a date with this
amazing guy on Friday and, although I asked him to do an activity rather than sitting to a table just eating, I'm not sure
he won't ask me to do both, like
first the game and then grab a bite.
It's extremely hard to let people understand
what a Water Fast is and why I do
it. Most of the time people think I'm
crazy knowing that I am drinking only
water for days. I usually don't say
anything to anyone, maybe just a close
friend, but definitely I don't want
to explain the whole process to someone that doesn't know me enough to have proofs that I'm not actually insane
but there are scientific reasons of the benefits
of a Water Fast. I'm also concerning
about my bad breath for my date night! Water Fasting creates a bad breath and white coat on my tongue, I feel disgusted myself so not sure how my date will react to that…I might
drink some strong herbal tea to avoid this issue. Oh well wish me luck for this date!

My Water Fast Day #9
Today's my Water Fast
Day #9 – I'm feeling great, my Ketones
are in large traces as 80mg/dL and
my mood is improving each day into the fast.
I've been reading a lot about Water Fasting, its benefits and how to properly do it; I also watched
lots of videos on YouTube and I bought 2
eBooks about water fasting information and guidelines. Overall I'm really
excited about all the health benefits that I can achieve with this 21 Days fast.
But what I have been really
worried in the past couple of days
though is on how to properly break a
fast. I did read lots of information and prepared a nice meal plan for the first 3 weeks and beyond, however I
still feel a bit afraid on getting back on eating and be able to handle my
cravings and binge episodes.
Online I found various experience of course, people succeeding,
people indulging in junk food in big quantities from day 1! I do have the strong opinion that first days are crucial, not only for the mind of a
binge eater but also to avoid dangerous
body side effect. After so many days of drinking only water lots of organs
in the body shut down, so I will need to gently put everything back on without shocking my body.
I read of people breaking a fast in an Indian restaurant,
when spicy food is one of the top 3 things to avoid in the first days after a fast. A lady went to a Chinese
restaurant to break her fast and she even ate the fortune cookie! Come on, ok
with the food but leave the crap out of your system since you just detoxed it. Anyhow, I guess we are the
result of our food choices and we can only blame ourselves, I include myself
obviously!
